The Hidden Bias Stealing Your Focus

Apr 30, 2025

Your brain is obsessed with the future.

It’s not your fault—it's built that way.
It loves to guess.
It loves to build worlds that don't exist yet.
It loves to conclude, and then over-conclude.

This is Prospective Bias at work—the itch to leave the moment you're in and live somewhere else.

You imagine the next disaster.
Replay the last mistake.
Rehearse a conversation that hasn’t happened yet.

And in the process, you lose the only thing that's real:
Now.

It feels useful, all this mental forecasting.
It feels productive.
It feels like you’re doing something.

But mostly, you’re not.

Mostly, you’re burning energy on things you can’t control.
You’re fueling anxiety.
You’re missing the step that's right in front of you.

Prospective Bias is a thief.
It steals your attention.
It waters down your work.
It convinces you that winning means predicting the future, when really, winning mostly means practicing the present.

Your best self isn’t trapped in what might happen next.
It's fully alive in what’s happening now.

This conversation.
This move.
This moment.

The future doesn’t need you yet.
This moment does.
