You Don't Have To Take It Personal
May 07, 2025You don’t have to take it personal.
You don’t have to get stuck in your hurt feelings.
You don’t have to turn every slight into a story.
There was this running back we worked with a few years ago—buried on the depth chart. So far down, his own position coach once blanked on his name in a team meeting.
But, you know what? The kid didn’t flinch.
He didn’t pout. Didn’t make a scene.
He just kept showing up.
Got lost in his process.
Stacked daily gains.
And here’s the mindset:
“What you think about me?
How you judge me? Fine.
But I’ve got work to do.
I don’t have to agree with your headline about who I am.
And it sure doesn’t factor into how I show up today.”
Eventually, the coach was dismissed.
The player moved up.
Started his senior year.
Went undrafted—but made an NFL team.
He ended up playing five years in the league.
Not because people believed in him.
But because he didn’t need them to.
He didn't take it personal.
And you don’t have to either.
Just keep working.
