Inputs > Outputs
Apr 22, 2025For those of us in the storm, the fight, not quite "there" yet—but still believing.
Every pursuit has two signals: inputs and outputs.
Inputs: what you bring—time, focus, energy, intention.
Outputs: what you get—wins, revenue, recognition, results.
We obsess over outputs because they're visible and validating. They let us keep score.
But if you're in the trenches building something that matters, you already know: the scoreboard always lags behind the work.
By the time results appear, they're already history. What determined them? Your habits. Your choices. Your effort. The unsexy work nobody applauded.
The leverage is in the inputs.
Bad practice today? Irrelevant. Take the loss, keep the routine, show up tomorrow.
Market down? Let it dip. You're not gambling—you're building. Stay the course.
Results slower than you hoped? Of course they are.
Anything worth doing takes longer than you think.
You never control the output.
You always control the input.
Don't flinch. Don't chase outcomes. Don't wait for permission or validation.
Keep showing up. Keep shipping. Keep trusting the process.
Because when the scoreboard finally updates, it won't reflect your wishes.
It will reflect the days you stayed when others left.
The mornings you showed up when no one was watching.
The practice you put in when it didn't seem to matter.
It matters.
Keep going.
